Common Questions About Rekeying

When you think of changing the locks in your home most people think of actually changing all the locks. There is an alternative that not everyone is aware of, and that is rekeying your existing locks to save you money.

Should you replace or rekey your locks?
Rekeying a lock means the locksmith will remove the pins and springs in the lock cylinder and replace them with new pins and springs that work with a new different key.

Why would you rekey your property?
If you rent out a home or apartment building and tenants leave the property you could rekey the apartment or house so they cannot reenter and new tenants feel safe. If someone in your family or a friend has a key to your property and you no longer want them to have access you could have the doors rekeyed. If you have more than one door in your home and they all take a different key you might want to rekey so all your doors open with the same key. If you have an office and an employee leaves you may want to rekey the door.

How much does rekeying cost?
Due to the low price of the key pins in the locks, rekeying is almost always much cheaper than having new locks installed.
